TeachSim for Improving the Preparation of New Teachers

Through support from the Jefferson Trust Foundation and the Bankard Foundation, the Collaboratory worked with TeachSim to conduct a series of six systematic replication studies that assesses the replicability of effects for an instructional coaching protocol on teacher candidates’ pedagogical skills.

The Collaboratory is currently expanding its replication efforts across multiple sites and content areas with support from the Robertson Foundation and the National Science Foundation.

The Robertson Foundation Partnership

Through support from the Robertson Foundation, this project will include a series of replication studies to be conducted over three years. Along with TeachSim and partners at Southern Methodist University and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, we will examine the effectiveness of coaching in mixed reality simulations on the development of teacher candidates’ skills on several key teaching practices: 1) establishing classroom norms and redirecting off-task student behavior; 2) providing specific, actionable feedback during whole-class discussions; and 3) communicating effectively with parents and guardians. Collaborative Research: Leveraging Simulations in Preservice Preparation to Improve Mathematics Teaching for Students with Disabilities

Through support from the National Science Foundation, this project will include a series of conceptual replication studies to evaluate whether practice opportunities and coaching in mixed reality simulations improve candidates’ high leverage teaching outcomes. These studies will be conducted across three diverse teacher preparation sites: University of Virginia, Boston University, and UMass-Boston.
